AI incident readiness before the incident

Active1 is a practical resource for teams rehearsing how they recognize, contain and recover from AI-related incidents.

For exercises, not emergency command

If an incident is happening now, use your organization’s approved response plan and responsible contacts. Do not substitute a generic website for your incident commander, security team or legal advice.

Prepare

A focused tabletop

Set an objective, assign roles and agree what the exercise will not do.

Plan a 60-minute session
Rehearse

An AI assistant incident

A hypothetical scenario tests data exposure, permissions and business continuity decisions.

Open the scenario
Record

A usable decision log

Capture uncertainty, ownership and evidence without confusing discussion with action.

Use the local worksheet

Readiness is observable behavior

A plan on a shared drive does not prove that people know who can pause an integration or communicate with customers. A useful exercise reveals missing authority, uncertain dependencies and unclear handoffs, then assigns specific corrections.

Start with one decision your team must make under pressure. Keep the scenario bounded, use fictional data and record the questions that cannot be answered. A completed exercise is evidence of practice, not proof that the next incident will be handled successfully.
